I heard this mentioned at school the other day and seems cool. Some people had used to print off some of their personal comic books - not sure how many are actually making money but worth a look.

Their blurb ...

Publish a book, CD, DVD, image or calendar — and order it within minutes.

I found a clothing version of this. Called spreadshirt.

Start up a shop and you can upload vectors and stuff... and err... obviously make shirts, cups and shit. Something the "professional-artist" inside of you would love... i love it, so does he, if not that!

There was a story on NPR the other day.
Lulu.com is running a contest for the best "blook".

They are taking "book" submissions from blogs. That is the requirement. The book must be taken entirely from an online format. Any genre.

Interestingly, some of the entrants already have "real" publishers signing deals with them.

---------------

I am using Lulu.com for a book my sister wants to self publish. It is a full color book with illustrations. Sort of in the style of a children's book but aimed at adult women... kind of a fable type thing for spiritual growth... blah blah... I put it together... I don't have to read it. I'm not a woman afterall so I don't have to understand it.
;)

The price for this is amazing. A 40 page full color book perfect bound... almost no money upfront ($35 for an ISBN).

--------------------

My mother self published a book a few years ago, before these types of web sites even existed.

She only printed 300 copies of a 6 x 9 paper back... black and white cover... no bleed. She hasn't even sold all of these yet.

She could print the same number of the exact same book with Lulu.com with a color cover for a lot less cost per book.... plus full bleed on the cover.

I told her if she ever wants to reprint this book we are doing it with Lulu. Even if she buys the books from them for resale... it is still a lot cheaper.
