I don't expect someone to browse the forum some hours before New Year's Eve, but maybe tomorrow...
How would you draw a shaved head or a designer stubble (very short beard), would you use a special style effect or brush? I tried the halo effect, using the skin color and the beard color for the halo, but it is a bit difficult to make it look natural.the problem is that the halo is a radial effect, so the hair is in the middle and the skin is around it at all sides. what I need is just a blurry or fuzzy blend from the skin to the hair, but not a blend from the hair to the stroke/contour.
Here is a rendering https://1drv.ms/u/s!AsNedAPvuG2thTyIfkY ... v?e=5nTPgA
and the moho file: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AsNedAPvuG2thTunafc ... A?e=9v8HyP
Since you have not used shading or gradients on other elements - why don't you use just another colour for the hair? This way you'd be able to make it look like some fashioned hairstyle (sharp and clean edges) and you're also at liberty to pick just the right colour for your character. From what I've seen on similar character designs, this usually works and for both - hair and beard.
Usually only the five o'clock shadow is drawn, in a blueish gray. Anything else is too much work, especially if you need to maintain the pattern of stubbles during head motion.
One of my first jobs as assistant animator 30 yrs ago was exactly this: correct or add the stubbles on Meister Röhrich, as you see him here:
Something I like to do is to just scribble some beard, randomly in each frame, but that only looks good in certain styles and must be done FBF.

Here we are doing some texturing job similar to the great example shown my Markus, mostly to animate complex textures or elements (such as short hair, freckles or cloth patterns) over hand drawn characters.
We draw the complex texture (hair in this case) in a vector layer and then create a simple mesh to animate and distort that entire vector layer.
Since the mesh is also just a vector layer, it can also be rigged and animated by Smart bones. So instead of animating hundreds of points, we just worry about a few in the mesh.
If at any moment we need some fine tunning, we still have the option to animate the mesh or the vector layer directly.
PS: it's very important to bind the release the vector layer from any bone influence (or bind it to an independent bone that won't move at all). Since those vectors will be moved directly by the mesh, any extra animation they could receive -as a bone(s) moving the points- could break the animation.

Well, those scenes were among the last to be finished, I inbetweened lots of water and shit, and because time was tight, even we animators had to ink the cels! (Yes it was the olden days.) So many of those shit covered scenes have been touched by my brush ...
It's a shame this film was only partly animated - the life action sequences are abysmal. The animation was as good as it would ever get in Germany. If you happen to get a copy, watch it (you can fast forward the life action parts).

thank you for providing the brushes!
But I cannot use them yet. I put them in the brushes folder of my custom content library, but the don't show up in Moho.
I tried the spots effect for the beard and I think I will use it. the 45° angle looks a bit weird, but 90° looks even worse...
Not sure if I will use it for the hair. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AsNedAPvuG2thT0jgXs ... 7?e=qKnSqo

Moho 12: in the _Brushes_ folder of custom content; Moho 13: in the _Vector Brushes_ folder. Then restart Moho.

ah, now it works! Vector brushes are not explained in the manual, how do you know what it is and how to use it?
