Imported hat texture won't stay put

Post by Akage »

Hello everyone. Relatively new Moho user here. I'm having some trouble with a misbehaving texture I've placed on a hat.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/0r3xw7iyot9uw ... b.png?dl=0

When I move the head bone back and forth, the texture seems to be moving at a slower rate to the hat shape and other layers bound to the head, so it falls behind and slides away from the hat base layer.

The texture is a .png imported from procreate, placed in a masking group with the base hat shape (mask), both layer bound to the head bone.
There's also a smart mesh controlling the texture's movement, I've set up head turn and tilt control bones.

So far I've tried:

*Re importing/replacing the texture with another image.

*Re binding all hat layers.

*Checking for stray bone strength influence.

*Deleting the actions that turn and tilt the head.

All to no effect, texture still won't 'stick' to the hat.

Thanks for reading if you've made it this far! Hopefully someone might be able to spot where I've gone wrong. I've attached the .moho file and the rogue texture if anyone fancies taking a look.

Thanks very much, Russell

Select the Hat MESH layer and use the orbit view tool to look at it from the side. You'll see that that mesh layer is further forward on the z-axis. This is causing some paralax between that mesh and the hat vector, and it's dragging the texture with it. Setting it to the same z-depth as the hat vector layer will solve the problem.

you might also like to take a look at this thread:

you've got a lot of layer scale / displacements / rotations on frame 0 and that's often a recipe for problems when animating...

and (understanding that this is likely work in progress) the artwork in Left Hand Switch isn't obviously lined up with a wrist?

Thankyou both for your replies, the z depth thing is something I'd not considered, I'll investigate that, cheers!

That's a very useful thread. I started making this and a few other characters many months ago, probably trying to run before I could walk in terms of using Moho's tools. I'd imagine the best thing to do would be to bite the bullet and normalize problematic layers on frame 0 and fix the results by moving /scaling the vectors instead.

I'm aware of the floating hand, the whole thing is very much a work in progress, yes! Enjoying Moho though, in spite of various bumps in the road.

Thanks again.
