Manipulate Bones tool doesn't work on certain bones

Post by Hoptoad »

When on Frame 0, the bone rig I'm working on works properly, and I can manipulate all the bones as expected with the Manipulate Bones tool. However, on the timeline, the Manipulate Bones tool doesn't work on a few of the bones. I can't even select those bones with the Manipulate Bones tool.

The problem doesn't seem related to Bone Parenting or Smart Bones or Bone Constraints...

What's odd is that the Rotate Bones tool works fine on all the bones on Frame 1 and beyond.

How do I make those bones working with the MB tool?

One more question. On the bone layer there are a couple small symbols I'm wondering about. Each one looks like a dot with two concentric circles around it. What are they for? They are located at the origin of bones. I think one appeared when I was using the Bone Offset tool, but I'm not sure. I may have pressed the wrong key on my keyboard or clicked the wrong button. How do I remove them?

Thanks.

Well, if those bones are targeting other bones, that could possibly explain both the small symbols you're seeing and not being able to manipulate them.

Target bones?

Oh, I bet I accidentally used target bones. Thanks.

That was it. I kinda suspected those little concentric circles might be a clue. (Note to self: little concentric circles are target bones. Is there a cheat sheet for Moho symbols? I could use one.)

I have no idea how I accidentally activated target bones. Oh well. It was an easy problem to remedy, once the cause was identified. Thanks again.

Glad that got you sorted. With one bone selected, ctrl-clicking another bone will target it. So it could be fairly easy to do accidentally.

There's also a little chain link symbol, for animated bone parenting.

Ah, that must be what I did. I sometimes forget an occasional two-key shortcut keys and will try the big three modifier keys in random orders, such as control+whatever, alt+whatever, and command+whatever, hoping I'll hit the right combo.

I need to stop doing that.

It's good to remember the Ctrl-click method and get use to using it because it's a whole lot easier setup and switch between different targets (or no target) than using the Constraints panel to assign and switch targets.
