Blobs of liquid

Post by Jkoseattle »

I need to animate this photo, so that the blobs of liquid are dripping slowly down. Simply moving them of course will look stiff. How would you go about this? I'm thinking of rigging the larger blobs to get them to flex a little, but I don't want to go down that path if it's not going to pay off. Is there a better way?

You'd really need to animate them so they follow the contours they are running down. Anything less will make them look like they're running down the camera lens or something.

a question to ask is how the drops will move - i.e. will they create a trail clinging to a surface - as may be the case for the ones on the arms (in which case this might help for the "stream" https://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/ite ... pane-night )

or will they fall (as might be the case for the ones on the hair) in which case they will quickly become spherical in free-fall.

Good questions. This shot will only be about two seconds , so they will cling. However, a major reason I'm asking is because there are more shots coming up which will have a lot more such drops, some of which will float in air (there are a couple such drops in that image). Any drops not attached to a character will be floating UP, btw. Here is an example:

try this: https://youtu.be/OtxlQTmx1LE ... use the footage upside down (not reverse time) to get the falling upwards effect?

For those who might want to know, I figured out I can just add a whole bunch of target bones to the drop layer, and can move them around to get them to stretch the image in ways that mimics liquid close enough. Pretty neat and very easy.
