Issues when using smart warp mesh

Post by PixelPeas »

I'm following Victor Paredes Youtube tutorial: How to simple animate an illustration in Moho Pro 13.5.2 using the new live smart warp meshes. I'm using two test files, one with a png and one with a jpeg.

I chose Draw --> Create Smart Warp layer. On that new layer on frame 0, I used the Add Point tool to go around the head leaving an open space, just like in the video.

Using the png, when I move to frame 1 to test the mesh and move the head, the rest of the image disappears. (I've included an image of this happening.) This does not happen in the tutorial.

Using the jpg, the body stays (just like in the tutorial) but when using the Add Point tool, it places a fill along with the stroke, the fill covers the face. This doesn't happen in the tutorial either and I can't get rid of it.

What am I doing wrong with these two files?

I've included pictures of both files so you can see the issues I'm having.

Thanks

Hi PixelPeas,

You're going to need to upload the images to an image hosting site or use a cloud storage service like Dropbox, and then link to the images from there using the Insert Image button. If you continue to have trouble with that, feel free to ask.

Descriptive text (i.e., step-by-step for reproducing the issue) and an example project file will also prompt quicker and more helpful information.

First, disable auto-fill on the add points tool. Second, the add points tool only fills the shape because you closed the shape and didn't leave a gap.

(You have an [img] tag at the first of your post that hides it from view.)

Thanks for the help. The auto-fill is disabled and the shape still has a fill. I disabled the auto-weld and that worked, so no fill, but in the tutorial, Victor has the auto-weld enabled and auto-filled disabled. Also, I did do as you suggested and left a gap and that also worked, but I'm perplexed as to what's going on with the auto-fill and auto-weld.

Also, in the png image, why is part of the image not included in the mesh, disappearing?

Thanks

I'm not seeing auto-close doing anything if I have Draw>Triangulate 2D Mesh enabled for the layer.
When you close a shape in the mesh, it thinks you want to make a hole in the mesh.

ok, so are the results different depending on whether a jpg with a solid background vs a png with no background is used? I would prefer to use a png, but when I move to frame one, the part of the image that I did not draw points around disappear. Are these bugs that I'm encountering are some settings that I'm overlooking. Can someone point me to a video that shows a png being used instead of a jpeg? Thanks

If you do not have a mesh for part of the image, it's expected that the mesh will crop that part out.
The only difference a background makes is that the automatically generated smart warp layer has some buffer around the image. If the automatically generated mesh doesn't cover all of the visible parts of a transparent background image, you will need to adjust the mesh yourself.

ok, now I understand more. I didn't fully understand the full function of the auto generated mesh and why it was around the image in the first place.

Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me :)
