Add keyframe to selected points?

Post by Nicohk92 »

Sorry if this was asked before but I can't find the answer. Wasn't there that option in the animation menu?
How do I add a keyframe to selected point without having to translate them with the mouse?

Set the cursor in the timeline and right-click, choose "add keyframe". The point(s) need to have another keyframe in the timeline first.

Thanks. Too bad it requires a keyframe on the track already.

Select the points you want, then select Transform Points tool and click the Reset button on the tool bar.

I prefer to use a shortcut for Freeze Selected Points. In my case, I have Shift+Ctrl+Q assigned. So...

1. Select the point.
2. Press Shift+Ctrl+Q.

A keyframe appears for the selected point(s).

This shortcut will work with any tool that lets you select a point, so you don't necessarily need to switch to the Select Points tool.

If you want to keyframe all points in the layer, use Freeze Points (Ctrl+F) instead.

Additional info: I have Shift+Ctrl+Q assigned to Freeze Selected Points and Freeze Selected Bones. Because you can only do one of these things at any time, you shouldn't see a conflict when you use the shortcut. You'll probably want to disable Enable Audio Feedback in Preferences because I think Moho will beep annoyingly.

So, why Shift+Ctrl+Q? It's an easy combo for me to press with my left hand. If you use my MQC tool, it's basically using this shortcut when you click the Freez Sel button. You can use a different key combo is you want, of course.

Hope this helps.

Very helpful. That shortcut wasn't set for me by default for some reason so I made it to be alt+shift+s (for selected).

Thanks!

Yeah, the shortcut doesn't exist by default. You need to set it yourself.

If it's just a single point, you can also click on it with the Transform or Magnet tool, and Moho will keyframe it, no need to select the point. I mainly use the shortcut method for multiple selected points and multiple selected bones.

Note: In 14.2, clicking also works for keyframing a single bone but only for Transform and Size. To keyframe Rotate, you now need to also hold Ctrl when you click. This might sound like an extra step, but it works better in practice with 14.2's new Transform Bone Tool controls.

I'm always afraid to move the point(s) by mistake if I click on it so I much prefer the freeze method

I wouldn't worry about it. On my computer, the point never moves when I just click on it. I have to deliberately drag on a point to move it.

If the clicked-on point moves too easily on your computer, try adjusting the mouse sensitivity.

Hope this helps.
