Head turn - explanation of layer order and masking required

Post by GabPur »

Hello! I just bought Moho Pro 14 last week and I'm still struggling to get to grips with a very basic head turn. The tutorial I have describes the technique of selecting "create mesh layer", but that option seems to be unavailable when working with vector layers (it looks like it's active only for image layers). Since I'm using vector layers I searched for different tutorials across the web and they all recommend masking, but without a proper explanation of the masking process (to which I'm also fairly new). Since their masks are relative to the layer order they have in their project that doesn't seem to apply to my project since I keep having parts of the head visible when they shouldn't be and viceversa. Also, I have added a blush to the cheeks using the gradient option, but even the shape of the cheek moves along with the head turn the gradient within it seems to stay in place. I attached a couple of images. Would you please give some advice to this newbie? Thanks!

That's a bunch of questions, and they're not all related to each other.

- Gradients: these and image textures move along according to bone influence.

- Masks: anything with masks has to be in a group/bone layer. The mask goes to the bottom as it is rendered first, anything to be masked is on top of that.

- Layer order: can be animated only when inside a group, and this group must have "allow animated layer order" checked.

Hello! Thanks for the quick reply! For the gradient part i'm talking about the bone controlled movement. When doing the head turn adjustments and trying to shift the shapes positions to fit in with the new side view, the gradient does not move along with the respective shape. For the cheek a created a simple circle shape which is filled with gradient (no stroke). When I move the shape to the side view the gradient doesn't seem to be moving along with it. It's just the shape contour moving, while the gradient sits in place (although it doesn't look like an independent shape since it cannot be selected). Have you encountered this before? Is there an option that needs to be ticked to do that animation?

You have to animate the gradient with the other changes. Here is a video to show you how to move the gradient of a shape. Hope it helps but sorry my sound recorder is awful!
