Moho 14 crashes on PSD import

Hey -- is anyone else dealing with this?

I am creating my vector images in Affinity Designer, and exporting as PSD. I'm wondering if it's the program that's the issue. But? I cannot import. It crashes before finishing it's import.

I"m going to try working in CSP EX and see if that changes anything. I do not have Photoshop or Illustrator.

I don't have Affinity, but Ive had good luck with layered PSD files from Krita and Procreate. I also have CSP and will give it a try tonight.

I'm not sure what's going on with your file, but in my experience it helps to clearly name all files (because Moho prioritizes layer names first, and then layer IDs,) and avoid using program-specific layer types and features. Basically, the PSD should be somewhat 'generic'. Blend modes are fine, but even then, I'd be careful because it needs to be a blend mode that Moho actually supports. If you follow the rules, the PSD should work fine in Moho.

Do all of your Affinity PSD files crash Moho, or just a particular one? If it's just the one file, then I suspect it's using a feature Moho does not support.

Something else to try: If CSP doens't work, try downloading Krita (it's free,) then open the file and save a copy from there.

I'll try Krita. And I'll try making sure each layer has a name. Beyond that -- these very basic vectors. Lines and fills. I'll get back to you on that once I try both possibles.

Well, I'll be damned!
That worked!

I tried importing two versions of the file in Affinity -- one where I removed the png layer I was using as a reference, then tried your suggestion of naming each layer in the file. The naming DID IT.

Just removing the background png had no effect. I was wondering if a non-vector layer in the file was mucking with the import, but removing it did not prevent a crash. Naming layers is the key!

CORRECTION.

It imports now, but not every layer. It rasterized some. ????

I am wondering if I did something wrong so I'm going to rebuild the file and see what happens on the next import.

Re: Rasterization, yeah, the PSD exchange is meant for bitmaps. To be honest, I'm a little surprised to hear it preserved some of your vector data. I want to test that here because I always assumed vector data does not go through this feature.

For vector drawings, SVG works better. If you have Moho 13.5 or earlier, download SimplSam's Importer/Exporter. If you have Moho 14, you don't need this tool because it comes native (and with improvements!)
