What 2D rigged shows do you watch?

Post by jayfaker »

Do you watch 2D rigged animation? If so, which ones are the most impressive to you? Or the ones you feel can be replicated in Moho?

I know people talk about Hilda, but so much of that is custom poses, I don't even know where to begin sometimes.

Star vs. the Forces of Evil seems more doable, and it's a pretty fun show to watch. Of course the opening sequences are the best, but the rest of the show is animated pretty well too.

And there's Bluey. Dangit that show is good.

Anyway, any other's that you like?

There are a ton of those, from old ones, like Grossology (2006-2009), to newer ones, like Final Space (2018-2021), they all use cut-out/rigged characters and could be done in Moho!

You can watch the entire Grossology series for free on the Keep it Weird YouTube channel, just click the link below...

Good Question! Truth is I am not really sure... Ruling out traditional anime and youtube, I have watched Bluey, Sh-Ra: The Princesses of Power, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Yet I am not sure which of those are rigged. Out of theses Sh-Ra: The Princesses of Power was most impressive to me and I did feel like the style would be mimicable in Moho and Cartoon Animator 5. I feel like Cartoon Animator 5 would be necessary for me because it auto lip syncs.

Honestly when I got into this I was looking more at using complexed designs but simple/cheat animation like Naruto did in the early days.

Oh yes! Final Space and She-ra! I'm going to have to look at those again!

Edit: Oh yeah... Final Space is gone... except the pilot.

You can watch Final Space on several streaming services, there is also Godspeed, a new web series by the same creator, 100% cut-out, click the link below!

Godspeed - YouTube

There is also a video on YouTube where one of the Final Space animators is showing the animation process for the show, but since it is not Moho related I won't share a link, but you can look it up !

Also have a look at the Grossology series, it was done by Nelvana, it's all cut-out, and very well done, click the link I posted!

FYI, Final Space is legally gone. Warner killed it, along with several other animated shows, like Infinity Train and Close Enough, as a tax write-off a couple of years ago. Summer Camp Island narrowly missed the axe...Cartoon Network managed to claw it back, including the final season, which had been completed but not broadcast at the time.

And by 'killed', I don't mean Final Space was canceled; the entire three-season run was literally wiped out from existence. Here's a news story about it from 2022...

'Final Space' Is Being Wrongly Erased, Thanks to Warner-Discovery Merger

I was lucky enough to purchase a streaming copy of Final Space before it was killed. I feared that would disappear too, but it's still in my library.

By the way, Olan Rogers managed to cut a deal with Warner to officially complete the Final Space saga as a one-shot limited edition hardcover graphic novel. (My child and I were lucky enough to pre-order our copies of the book. Can't wait for the release!) :)
