Here is some of my thoughts and experience with AI and Moho...
I too had art work done in AI and wanted to animate in Moho. At first I started out importing AI files into Moho and editing them within Moho.
You will have to edit in Moho after import. Moho does not use "bezier" curves. The math used to define the vector curves in Moho is geared specifically for smooth animation/motion
not illustration. You will find that Illustrator files will need some clean up to work efficiently in Moho. How much clean up depends on what the file needs to do in Moho.
At first I had absolutely no trouble with this process. I found that my Illustrator files came in... well... different than the original... but close enough to be usable. I was thrilled. I had a bunch of character designs already done in AI and I was able to "repurpose" them... with some modest effort... anything worth while is going to require some effort.
I found myself after awhile deleting tons of unneeded points in Moho after importing AI files.
Eventually I became more comfortable in Moho and found the drawing tools in it much better than those in Illustrator and I stopped using AI to do any preliminary work and drew everything within Moho.
I learned that the curves are defined differently in each applcation and I could create much "leaner" more efficient files by drawing them directly in Moho.
When you draw in AI you are not drawing for motion... so depending on how a "character" or element will "move" you may need to add or delete points to specifically aid in the animation process. Illustrator was originally designed for static "print" work... Moho was designed specifically to aid in creating smooth animations using its own curve definitions.
I would need "extra" points at elbows and knees so they can bend properly... etc.. In illustrator... I could define the side of a curved "leg" with only two points... how could that be translated to animation?
I would say to you... start out importing AI... see how it works for you. Keep in mind there is a LOT of... uh... frustration here in the forum about the lack of "integrity" in the translation of AI files to Moho... mainly this is in response to so called "false marketing" statements or "bad" color conversions.
I can see this argument... but... I don't agree with it completely. My experience was fine using AI with Moho... but now I don't bother with AI. I still use AI for print work... but not animation.
You will find as you use Moho more and more there will be no need to do anything in AI before hand.
These are my personal observations.... YMMV.
