Blank render
Hi, Anyone know why a 'render' doesn't come out- I have a fairly complex background with some animation. - a door opening and a light beam moving. looks good, until I render it at any point, frame 0 or any other point on the timeline. The scene was set up at 0 so it ain't that. All I get is a white blank! Tried exporting animatiion and same thing, a blank. So what have I done this time? This has happened to me about twice....... I usually do it again and it works, but I would like to find out why this can happen.?
I gotta ask: Is the the camera view looking at your scene? It seems to me that the most likely cause of this problem is that your scene does not take place where the camera can see it. Is there a blue rectangle on the screen around your background etc?

blank render
Hallo Alan, The camera didn't seem to be the problem. I managed to solve it in a way. I had put everything in a group layer, as there was so many layers to control. I checked to see if by chance this had 'mask' or somesuch on it, but it didn't. Anyway, I removed all the layers from the group and rendered it without. and it was OK, so it must have been something to do with putting everything in a group, though I am still mystified why it didn't render or preview, when all the layers were within a group. The only thing I can think of, is that I didn't put any layers into a group until after I'd done everything, including a small amount of animation on one layer only. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.

If you create a new layer anywhere in the time line besides frame 0 the new layer defaults to invisible up to that point.
This is usually visible in the timeline when the layer is selected however... big pinkish red... thingy through that layers timeline up to the point it becomes visible..
Another thing might be... if the layer had the "eyeball" turned off... invisible in the view this would make the layers inside also invisible...
... with a lot of layers inside an expanded group you (or me all the time dagnabbit) might not see that the group is turned off and wonder why everything is hidden.
Surprisingly with all the complex files I create... I am easily confused by simple things like that.

invisible rendering
Hi Heyvern, I think you have nailed the problem of the 'invisible rendering' (sounds like it ought to be a good thing, like 'invisible mending'..) There was indeed a layer that wasn't supposed to appear until later - and I think all the other layers united in sympathy and none came out at all. Also you're right about the 'eyeballs' , it was a very complicated slow to render background, and the expanded layers were many, why I wanted them in a group really. However, it did work when I removed the group layer. ..... Many thanks.
