Slow flowing dynamic tail

Post by Sailor-taurus »

Hi again. Getting myself aquainted with the dynamic bones system. I already got it to work for springy ponytails, but now I have a character with a big fluffy tail that I want to slowly flow behind her when she moves (the tail is like Tails from Sonic, except there's only one). I've toyed with different settings, but the tail is always "whee, i'm a spring and I can return to my original position in less than two seconds" or "whee, I won't stop springing!". The tail has 5 bones. Can anyone suggest any Torque, Spring and Damping values for a tail that flows behind her (not too much, it does have weight).

Nevermind, discovered that it is impossible to do, but I did get a nice effect with the tail (it moves and then slowly bounces back into position...same with ponytail).

I think for the tail I had the main bone set to 2,1,5 , and then reduced the damping for each one. For the ponytail I had the main bone set to 5,1,5 , and then reduced the torque each time (I think...can't really remember too clearly).

On my way to school so don't have time to work on this but also remember to mess with the angle constaints. The bone at the base of the tail for example may have a bigger angle on the bottom but less on top so that it wouldn't bounce as high because of the weight and it being fixed at one end.
