Animating a layer blur - CAN IT BE SMOOTH?

Post by Grayhem »

I find that when I animate a layer 'blurring out' using a 0% blur to a 45% blur, it doesn't animate smooth (say over 45 frames) - it seems to blur out in increments ( and not 45! )
In a perfect situation, I would want to animate from 0% to 4% in some cases, but if it works that in 4 steps, that also would be 'un-smooth'!

Does anybody else have this problem?

Does anybody know how to help - or is this a limitation of anime studio? :?:
Thanks for any help that you can give - I appreciate it!

It's not that, but rather that I don't use that feature very often. I guess most animators use Adobe After Effects for such things, because it is much more reliable than AS for such special effects.

I don't have after effects
I personally use a PC - but we do a bit of post effects on an applemac using Motion2 (from final cut studio)
I just find anime studio really quick and easy to use for some simple layers-in-3d compositing, and having a smooth blur option would be great within this too - do most people use this for very quick blurring? (so that you wouldn't see the increments?)

You might try using depth of field blurring instead of regular blurring. I don't know if this will help.

Also just to make sure this is an AS problem... are you sure the "stuttering" is not from the playback slowdown of a huge movie file? If the file is huge it would "jerk" a bit during playback... of course the whole animation would be effected not just the blurred layer... Just looking for other possibilities.

I'll look into the DoF blurring - but i'd like to be more in control of what I'm blurring though - via keyframes on timeline - If there was any tutorials about really how to use the depth of field, that'd be good

PS its definately not a movie playback issue - but I know what you mean though
