Unaffected by switch layer feature

Post by DK »

I am doing a front on shot of a girl with a skipping rope. I need the rope to pass in front of her and then pass behind her.

It would be extremely handy to be able to put her group in a switch layer and have a rope layer above her group and rope layer below her group. With an unaffected by switch function applied to her group I could simply switch between the rope layers. I realise there are other ways of doing this but I thought it would be a nice simple tool to implement. Maybe it could be done with a script?

Cheers

Rasheed wrote a script that might help. It's in this thread:

http://www.lostmarble.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7780

It uses a bones location in relation to another bone to change the z-depth of a layer. I don't know how well it would work with a group or switch layer, haven't tried that yet.

Take a look at Rasheed's animation blog. There's a little loop of this in action...
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
