Filling objects problem

Post by Nucleus »

I seem to have some problems filling up a shape. the object is closed but when i try to fill, only the border will outline or i have to click on random regions for the filling to work. is there a way to avoid this? what may be causing the problem?

thanks.

In order to create a filled shape the splines need to be created and selected "correctly".

Usually it means making sure you have a completely closed shape selected. All the points are connected in some contiguous fashion. Sometimes depending on how other points or splines are connected AND selected when creating the shape prevent that "fill pattern" from appearing.

It is that wierd red fill pattern that you want to see before creating the shape. If you don't see that pattern the fill shape won't be created. Check which points are selected.

Often I find that a shape that is created from two crossed splines with only two points in common can prevent a fill. Sometimes adding one extra point on a line will allow a proper fill shape to be created.

There are a bunch of situations that would cause this problem. Posting a screen grab or the actual file would help narrow it down and find a solution or explanation.

problem solved. I segmented the parts being filled like thigh and shin (which I needed to do anyway if I wanted a good crease on the bending). fill worked fine after that. It did get a bit tricky around the toes, but managed to fill those too by modeling the toe nails as a separate shape, filling them, then adding them to the toe. thanks for your prompt as well as insightful response vern. Its very much appreciated.

PS: also had some problems with the fill color "streaking when a limb was bent too far, but fixed it by adjusting the envelopes.
