Animating line width to zero..?

Post by jhbmw007 »

I saw someone say that in version 5.5 line width became animatable, so... I was wondering is it possible to have a line (a cheek wrinkle on someone's face) disappear when they are going from a smile to an "O,U,W" shaped expression?

But first I should probably address this issue: I can't click a line and then change it's width in the style panel. It just stays the same width as I drew it- is this because I'm drawing with a stylus using variable line width?

The panels style controls the overall width of the line. if it have variable wiidth (because it was drawn with an stylus or have change the width of one of the points using the witdh tool), then the width tool values (animatable) override the main width of the line in the style window (what you can recover with the Reset Line width (CTRL -L) form the Draw menu).
You have to select all the points (or one by one in different frames is this is the desired effect) and give a vakue of 0 to the Line Width tool. In this way the line stroke would dissapear. To restore the original width (variable) in another different frame don't use again the width tool. Use instead the copy / paste keyframes of the line width channel of the selected points from the one that you want to repeat the width. If you use the line width tool for a group of points all of them will have same width.

No, it's called the replace line tool- it was in a custom toolset someone created and made available for download on this forum. I cannot seem to find the post to it though... anyone know what I'm talking about?? It also has some other very useful tools= like translate points/bones tool.

It allows you to select a line, then draw a new line in place of the selected line. (Similar to tweenmaker). With this, I can draw a variable line width line with my stylus, then in the desired frame (or in my case- a duplicate layer nested in a switch) redraw it in a new position with width set to 0. So as it moves to the new position, it will gradually disappear.

Ah!
Here they are. Give thanks to Fazek. They are the essential set of modified LM tools that every one should have installed.
