Question about tutorial 6.1

Post by andrewjs »

This tutorial file clearly has 4 semi-transparent blobs, but I cannot see how they were created semi-transparent since the opacity is 100% for all layers. Is there another setting for this?

If you want to see the semitransparent blob you have to set to Preview in the Display Quality button in the main window. Or simply select the blob shape with the select shape tool and have a look to its filling color. The layer is not affected in this example.

The manual wrote:These blobs will be used to create a smoke effect, using a particle layer. If you examine these blobs, you'll see that they are all semi-transparent, and have the soft edges fill effect applied to them. In addition, the blobs all have a simple animation applied to them - over the course of 48 frames, they spread out horizontally. You can play back the animation to see this happen.
The blur comes from the soft edge applied to the blob shape. Select a blob shape and you will see the applied effect to it.

Thank you; I see the semi-transparency; my question is how is it achieved? The opacity is set to 100%, so I don't understand how it has any transparency at all. I just want to know where the setting is for this.

hey never mind.. i just saw the transparency slider next to the fill color palette. some things, like gravity, are so obvious it takes a genius physicist to define it only after tens of thousands of years have passed in the life of the species.
