duplicate independent characters?

Post by starchild »

Hi guys, how ya doin? (oh gosh, sounded like "Joey", hehe)

well, I'm still learning AS, but today when I tried for the first time to duplicate a character (it's a scene where a lot of same-looking characters dance together), the copies just followed the original character movements.
by the way, they are all-bone cut-out characters.

but I need each of them doing different dance moves. But couldn't find a way to turn them into independent-boned-dolls with the same looks/layers and bone structure.

am i missing something here? any ideas?
they need to look the same, but can't move the same.

again, sorry if it's obvious, i'm working hard into learning the software.
many thanx in advance

Once you do animation with one character and then duplicate it, it will duplicate its motion as well, of course. After duplicating you have to go into each layer of the copy and delete the animation in the timeline (that's "clear animation from layer" in the menu).

Or you duplicate your character before you start animating it.

Be sure to duplicate the top layer of the character - this could be a group layer or a bone layer. Everything duplicated inside a bone layer will of course follow the bones in the same way as the original layer. If you duplicate the top layer, everything inside it will be duplicated as well - nothing could be easier.
