is there a script for Smoothing a curve?

Post by DK »

Does anyone know of a script for smoothing a curve?
I use the split curve tool a lot but sometimes I can still
see slight imperfections in the curve. Aside from
increasing the point count I thought there may be a
script that utilizes the curvature tool in Anime Studio.

This has come up before and I don't think I have heard of any new scripts that aid in this process.

The problem comes from how curves work in AS... delete the wrong point and destroy the basic shape. There are no curve "handles" so there is no way to eliminate points in the same way as other drawing applications.

What I do to smooth shapes is to eliminate rather than increase points to make a shape "smoother".

Too many points and the shape will be never be "smooth". Fewer points and you can get a pretty smooth shape.

From my experience the smallest number of points to have a perfectly smooth curve is 3. I use that as a general rule of thumb when I draw in AS. I know if I look at the whole shape as groups of "3 points" I can get a pretty smooth look to it by adjusting the curvature. It all depends on how the shape needs to move over time of course.

In addition to that, don't forget to use the curve tool. It's not only to create sharp corners but to define the "impact" of one point between two others.

Thanks Slowtiger. Now that you mention this, I should ask if anyone has had any problems with the Add Point Tool/Sharp Corners?
Sometimes it works for me sometimes not? Could this be a known bug?

Not at my place, it works as supposed. Don't forget to enlarge your view so you really hit the points / lines ...
