I'm having problems moving my character. Each time I move one part of the body, the whole body stretches. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hi, I'm also new to the forum and to AS.
I think your problem can be solved if you have look to the tutorial for bones.
- 3.1 bone binding -
There is a panel which shows the menue for "binding menue" you should click also on the "region binding".
This helps normally, and if there are still some smaller regions who are moving without any "permission", it helps to put another small bone on this part.
So the moving bone will not influence this part of your character.
This happened to me often, especially if I'm using png's.
Good luck

A couple of suggestions...
Firstly, are you using the right tool? The bone transition tool will stretch the body around, but the bone manipulation tool will let all the bones moves around eachother like ... well, like a sketeton.
Secondly, maybe you could fiddle wth bone strength. Maybe the bones' regions of influence are too large (too strong) and they are influencing areas that they aren't supposed to.

Look in the tutorials or help for bone offset.
When you create a character and his arms and legs and body are all in the "proper" positions the bones are too close together. The arm bone will move the body, the legs may actually move the arms.
If you are using region binding on the bone layer this is even more important. Flexible binding will have every bone effect every part of the mesh to some degree. Region binding is based more on bone strength/size and proximity to the mesh.
By using bone offset you move parts of the body away from each other so that the bones only control that one part. You use the bone offset tool on frame 0 to put the body "back together".
