hiding/locking geometry

I know we can hide and reveal layers but I have been making more complex geometry within a layer and find it rather difficult to select or isolate the part of geometry that I want to work on. This is especially so with overlapping shapes. Making named groups helps a bit but if we copy and paste geometry from other layers or projects, the names are not carried over.

Any ideas anyone? Feature request?

I second this request. It would also be useful when you want to use the magnet tool, while not affecting some of the points.

This feels scriptable to me, and there might already be a script around to do it.

I love the idea of being able to hide and lock shapes!

As far as I know there is not a script for it... yet.
I've often thought of how something like this could be done with a script.

It would be VERY tricky. Probably some kind of scripted tool... actually I don't know for absolute certainty it COULD be done. Worth looking into though.

The problem is that each tool has it's own way of handling shapes. If you locked points with a custom tool, you would have to modify any other tools to use that code or they would just "override" the effect.

Fazek's magnet (replacement original LM's one) tool do that. It only work on selected points. Try it at Scripting area. It is a God's gift.
