"Add Point" Draw Tool is Not Drawing on Screen?

Post by palpacino »

Hi Guys,

I am very new to AS and I have been racking my brain on this one for over 1 hour!

When I select the Add Point feature in the tutorials on their website (Tutorial 1.2, trying to do the clouds) the thing just won't let me do anything in the window. I click n' drag, but there is nothing there. I want to, of course, drag out a few points from one to the next to create the cloud, but man its not working!

The Add Point tool worked in the previous lesson when I was making rolling hills, but not now. I've tried every little tweak on the interface that I could see such as changing line widths, colors, and all the options on the top of the screen, but all were in vein.

Edit: Since posting, I have found that if I just click very fast and randomly in a sort of circle pattern, I can see flashes of points and lines being connected. If I keep it up, sometime I can inadvertently create a shape that I can then manipulate. I still cannot control anything though.

I'd be most obliged for any assistance with this one!
Thank you!

Sincerely,
Josh

Are you trying to add points on a frame that is not "0"?

What about display settings? Are construction curves on?

Have you quit AS and restarted it? This should "reset" back to wherever you were when it worked properly.

There is no setting that I can think of other than those I mentioned that would cause the behavior you describe. Display settings with construction curves turned off sounds promising. From your description it sounds like "drawing on a frame other than 0". Just a guess.

"Construction Curves" was the dang answer!

I just had to turn them on in the "Display Quality" at the bottom of the drawing!

Thank you, Sir!

Adding points works in other frames than 0 too, but it mostly gives weird results in teh preceding parts of animation so they have to be re-adjusted too.

Yeah, that was a total long shot. :) I've seen that happen where the points "shoot off" to wierd places when I add points on frames above 0... but you could still see the lines and points.

Glad it worked out for you Palpacino!
