adding bones to a layer after the fact
I pasted some vectors into a layer and have added bones to the animation to control them. I bound the layer to the new bones(the new groups parent), but the bones only move the graphic without the usual warping to match the bones. This looks like I move the image I drew but not warp it using the new bones. What am I doing wrong? I tried binding point but am I doing it wrong?
I do cartoons and make music. I like to make music because John K is not likely to tell me I am doing it wrong.
Select the layer.
Select the "Bind layer" tool. The bone that the layer is bound to should highlight in red. With this tool selected click on the screen where there is no bone. The highlighted bone should go away. Now the layer is not bound.
You could also go to the bone menu and select "Release layer".
Now you need to select all the points of the layer and in the bone menu select "Flexi-bind points". DON'T SELECT FLEXI-BIND LAYER!!! Flexi-bind layer means instead of one bone controlling the WHOLE layer all the bones motion will effect the layer as if it were a single "point"... just like before but now it is multiple bone control. You want "Flexi-bind points".

Flexibind points
Thanks again Vern. That was easy. I had some trouble understanding that section in the tutorial because of the way it was written. I must have read that section a dozen times.
