Get a sound editing program to edit your tracks. If you're a MAC user, Garage Band will do the job just fine. When using Windows, I use Guitar Studio. It does a lot more than the name suggests, and it has SMPTE time codes so you can Sync it with your animation. Here's how I do it (I use MAC these da...

I recall that bone layers were also group layers, but I'm not understanding that "Switch layers are also bone layers". Switch layers have the capacity to add and rig bones. The tutorials give an example of using bones to make a character smile while talking by adding bones to a switch lay...

I had similar problems when I first started using AS. Most of the time it happened because I was not on frame ) in the timeline when I drew the object. If this is the case in your drawing, you'll see a keyframe in the timeline for the outline color. Set your timeline at that keyframe and see if your...

although, there are always reasons to do things in other orders...."whatever gets the job done" is my moto! You have to be creative: do what it takes to get the look you want. I find bone animation most useful when the character or object will be seen from the same perspective in the scen...

Topic: how do i change character's facial expressions?

Using switch layers is the easiest way to change facial expressions, in my opinion. I have been able to rig some facial expressions using bones, but it can get complicated. My recommendation: Make separate switch layers: one for mouth and one for eyes. Make the first vector sub layer with eyes open....

Thanks for the advice and encouragement, Chucky. Look very carefully at the colours, you may want to do some subtle changes to make a more pleasing eyeful Thanks for that- I've changed up several of the scenes. I'm experimenting to get the right look and create the right mood. you may also want to g...

I'm working on a pilot animation that i plan to screen at major film festivals in order to get noticed as an animator. I find AS to be adequate for the task. Of course, it requires good movie editing software (which was included on my Mac), and means to get professional sound recording (which I had ...

Cartoon Network is owned by Turner Broadcasting, which is a division of Time-Warner. If you have a finished pilot, you may want to put together a Press kit: Glossy 2 pocket folder 7-10 still photos from the feature (use the best ones). A couple of photos of you in action- drawing a character, record...

I make the changes using frame-by-frame animation. Maybe I'm stuck in the past, but using the switch layers and onion skin mode I draw the first image and then the image of what the character transformed into, and then using onion skins, I draw a breakdown image or two. Then I'll make some in-betwee...

That's some good-looking art. Did you say you drew the characters in Illustrator? How does the import into AS work out with vector based images, or are you rendering them as PNG files?

I didn't notice the no eyebrows until you said so. I thought maybe it was part of your unique style: Speed Racer had no lips! The back part of the hair is moving, and doesn't have a natural look. You can fix this by binding points of the parts You want moving to the bones. Looks like you got a good ...

I assume you're going for an 'anime' style. The only problem with trying to emulate a well known style is that you will be more strictly judged by the standards of that style. I don't think you are pulling it off well enough yet. I would suggest either practicing that style more (there are a ton of...

The differences are very minor, but they do make some tasks easier. For example, his magnet tool will only affect points you have selected. This makes it easier to adjust a group of points when making inbetweens. without it, I had to drag an object out of the drawing area, and so, the onion skin was...

I'd have to agree. Frankie, could you please use a smaller avatar? Yours is crowding out the text of the posts. sorry about that- I linked it to a URL where I had some art posted. I think I'm good artist, but my computer skills are awful. I'm sure I can get along fine without an avatar- I'm too laz...
