Sorry, don't intend any rudeness, just want to know... I might want this feature too!!

Not useless, just not what you expect... Save as default means that when you start a new animation project, it starts with the settings you want normally (whatever you saved). I think it's a great feature, because I got tired of changing the settings every time I created a new scene for an animation.
