How can I import BMP, JPEG etc + animate them?

Post by MiKalEl »

Hi! How can I import BMP, JPEG, PSD etc images into Anime Studio and animate them with bones?

( I know that this is a very general question, but it's my first day :p)

Have you done the basics for bones? Image layers?

Read up on those in the tutorials and help and you should get the idea.

We love to help new users but I would like to see you at least make some effort on your own first. The basic answer to your question would just be a "copy/paste" from the help and tutorials.

(..and yes i have done bones and layers :p)

I was just talking about taking a static image such as a BMP, import to it into the AS and then add bones on it.

I can't find the way of doing it right.

Not enough info. There is no way to know from that statement what trouble you are having. Read over the tutorials and help regarding bones and bone layers again.

Also try to be more specific with exactly what your trouble is. Post examples if possible.

Generic vague questions are very difficult to answer, "I can't find the way of doing it right." contains absolutely no helpful clues. ;)

Greetings!

If you only work with a single image, the best you'll get will be image warping, as in Tutorial 4.2 and Tutorial 4.3.

The best way to do it is to slice your image up into "puppet" pieces, patch up any problems at the joints/edges (if it's a photo use cloning, if it's artwork use painting tools), then animate them as in Tutorial 4.1.
A similar example tutorial for Flash can be seen here, except use the bone binding technique from Tutorial 4.1

Use .png files with transparent/masked background around non-rectangular pieces, or else you will have to create a vector mask in Anime Studio for .jpeg, .bmp.
I don't think you can import .psd directly

Regards, Myles.

Ok, I'm being a bit thick here..

I've imported an image from photoshop (a character).

The image has not been split into limbs yet, I want to get it working first.

I can get the bones moving fine but not with the image, the tutorial that covers this (the statue of liberty) has a vector layer that appears to be the link yet I can't find the tutorial that tells me about the way this layer works. Am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks

Yep, you're right. I had read it, I just hadn't read it 'properly'.

It's all good now, thanks.
