Actions Get Distorted After Keyframes Are Set in Mainline

Post by GregSmith »

The second set of "Action" errors that have cropped up with version 6 involve action poses that get distorted in the "Mainline" after selecting any other layers involved in the animation, and then re-selecting the "group" layer containing the "action" animation keyframes and dragging the time slider.

Boy, I hope you're wrong about this one, Greg -- this is a showstopper for me.

Actions HAVE to work right in AS 6 or I'm not upgrading.

MKelly:

To be more specific: my actions contained 1 frame "poses" involving both bone movement and simultaneous point movement to establish the pose. I haven't tested this with "actions" that only contain bone movement or only contain point movement.

I don't know if you downloaded the "trial" version of 6, but you can test this for yourself. I'm just hoping the "official" release will deal with this set of bugs.

I just did another test using actions created by the use of switch layers and point motion. Everything was parented beneath a "master" Actions folder, where the actions were keyed.

I got the same series of errors. Keyframes mysteriously disappear from the "Actions" portion of the timeline, the layer order is not animated properly, even though "Animated Layer Order" is checked in the master "group" folder.
And, point motion is not retained or interpolated properly.

No bones were used in this test.

can you upload a file?
I have no problem with actions, for me they work just like in version 5.

The best I can do is upload a video, I don't have a host right now for uploading general files.

I can confirm that layer ordering doesn't work in actions anymore -- sigh.

This means I cannot adopt 6.0 at this time. Hope Mike sees this, as this may be a showstopper for more than just us (is there any particular reason none of the beta people TESTED THIS?)

I assume Vern doesn't use actions for layer ordering much, since he has his complex bone rigs for turns.

Regardless, this is still a lose of functionality, which I still say shouldn't occur.

It's nice that we finally got back v5.5 png transparency when saving from the render window, reportedly. I guess that's what we're to expect now? Anything accidentally lost will take two updates to address? Just curious.

Yes, while we were all out at a stripper club getting drunk, we tried to come up with different ways to annoy as many people as possible. I came up with the idea to include live spiders in the box if you bought it at a store but that wasn't as effective for downloads and updates. Also the spiders didn't seem to survive the shipping process.

We'll keep working on it. I'm thinking scorpions instead of spiders...

Vern, all jokes aside,
I think you could at least post a photo of your nails.

I can't replicate this "bug"... at all.

Please give detailed step by step instructions. Don't leave out anything. Or post a video of the steps. I have tried and can't do it.

Here is a short video demonstrating one of the Action errors happening with Anime Studio Pro 6 that I have encountered:

Try this yourself to verify,

I can replicate this.

I can also consistently get it to fail in this manner -- I open up a 5.6 file (don't know if that's important but do try it with an older file). Now I turn on Animate Layer Orders or whatever the heck it's called (to make sure). Now, I create an action which switches any orders (only a 1 frame action -- that may be important as well, I dunno, but layer switching occurs at frame 1).

So far so good -- it even actually works by putting a copy of that action in the timeline, changing the order. BUT (a big butt and no comments on my anatomy, please) if I then change the layer order again somewhere else on the main timeline and try to insert a copy of that action it doesn't do anything at all.

If you'd like I can create a movie as well (but I'll need to install Camtasia on my machine so it will have to wait until tomorrow). But this is consistent across any file I care to try: namely, changing layer order in the main timeline "breaks" any actions which have layer ordering in them.
