Here is a couple of scenes I stringed together. trying to see if I can get the look right for movement and .

now I just have to find that balance between style and ease of animating.

It looks very good to me. I think that you balanced the style complexity with the motion sensation.
Maybe a bit of soft shading on some parts of the drawings can improve it a bit.
Good one anyway!

That was nicely done, especially the second last shot .... good job the spaceship has real weight and momentum.
Just one thing regarding shot flow, I am not trying to be smart here... I can't help that  but if you imagine the last shot flipped, the pilot will more believably the pilot, there is another two shot earlier on, that also breaks the line of action.
You will notice this in almost any well crafted movie or animation- even the notoriously maverick Michael Bay does generally stick to this principal (although sometimes it's hard to tell), transformers 2 is tricky enough to follow without crossing this imaginary line) .Most other accomplished directors adhere faithfully to the rule with good reason.
Imagine a football game if the camera changes sides of the ground from shot to shot (not including replays- that's another matter) it would look like the players where kicking own goals.

- look it up on the net too to see what I am talking about- line of action.
Again I'm not trying to one up here, I genuinely think you would appreciate this tip and put it to good use.
You clearly have a natural affinity for shot flow and you have instinctively done a great job with shot choices on the whole- I look forward to seeing more.

This is excellent work. Is this part of a bigger work in the making?

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone.

Chucky - nice catch I see what you mean if I kept the movement going from left to right, would give a a nicer flow.

bmj2728 - It is part of a bigger project in the sense that my plan is to animate a full story. this was my first testing to see if I could get the major concepts to come though with AS. I think its coming along but as mentioned I might still need some testing with softening up colors.

I've have some export issues with earlier version of AS but the latest really feels solid and inspired me to get back to this project.
