problem with bones offset

Post by katz »

another question to this amazing helpful forum...

i put bones in the arm of a character (on frame 0, arm positioned away from the body), then i use the offset tool to drag the arm bones in the right position, arm image layer follows, everything fine.

but when i go back to the spread-apart-view the bones stay in their position on the body, while the arm image layer goes back to its original position.

why don´t the bones switch back to their original position?

the weird thing is that i have three similar characters, with two it works fine, just one is causing these problems. i even tried to set up new arm bones etc... whats wrong with the guy??

Hi Katz,

Is the arm image within a group or switch layer, by any chance? If so, then group layers and switch layers must be manually bound to bones using the "Bind Layer" tool, as far as I can tell. Simple vector layers, on the other hand, are offset properly.

Cheers,
Muffy.

hi muffy, thanks for your answer.
the arm image layer is inside the arm bone layer, which is inside the body bone layer. the arm image is bound to the arm bones, thats not the problem. i can animate it well.
i just don´t understand the weird behavior when i switch to the spread-apart-view. it just looks wrong to me, and it also causes trouble binding image layers (objects the character is holding in its hand) to the arm bones, at least i think thats the reason...

Hmmm, I've never tried nesting bone groups this way...I just have a single bone group for a character, with vector layers inside (which bind automatically) and additional vector groups and switch groups (which I need to bind manually).

I'm afraid I don't know what the problem is in this case.

You need to bind the arm bone layer to the arm bone (in the top bone layer) via layer binding.

thanks for your replies, unfortunately that didn´t help either. i couldn´t figure out what the problem is, so i solved it by making the character and all bones completely new. now it works... i don´t understand why, but i´m glad it does....
