There's a visibility icon on the timeline (kinda hard to see, but it looks like an eye). This toggles visibility, so if the character/prop whatever is visible, this will make it invisible, and vice versa. When invisibilty is 'on', the timeline background turns pink.
You can't have everything. Where would you put it?
Hmm, I'm not sure I understand your question. If it's using switch layers you need info on then maybe download my tutorial from here which explains how to animate using switch layers...

If you are using debut u need to click on the layer and click on layer settings or just double click on the layer and you will see a checked box named visible. After that you will be able to adjust the invisible from the time line.
